My name is Andy Friedlander and I’m an artist. I live on three acres with Rose, my wife of 46 years. Our land is bordered on the west by State Route 9 and on the east by the Upper Samish River. The river is right in our backyard – about 50 feet or so from the house, depending on how high the water is – and has never flooded.

In this blog I will trace the history of the river, the Samish Nation and surrounding area. I will also discuss the art that was being created along the way by the Samish Nation as well as the settlers who made homes along the river valley.

I am writing this during our third week of quarantine because of the Coronavirus. I plan to post twice a week but it will depend on the progress of the virus and our quarantine. It is a strange time but it’s important that we keep the creative spirit alive. Welcome to the new web site of the Samish River Art Studio and ME BLOG: THE SAMISH RIVER, ART & EVERYTHING.
